Hygi-Zone Vitality uses visco-elastic temperature sensitive foam that responds to heat and moulds itself uniformly. It is based on the visco-elastic memory foam design specification that came out top in the MHRA’s 2004 comprehensive comparative trial of the UK foam mattresses:- Vitality outperformed seventeen other mattresses, recording the lowest interface pelvic pressure performance. (See Related Reading section on the right). Hygi-Zone Vitality is suitable for High Risk patients, and Very High Risk on profiling bed frames.

Hygi-Zone has four lines of defence against contamination:
- New and unique foam formulation incorporates an additive, which kills MRSA, Staphylococcus Aureus, E-Coli and others.
- The outer Silver-based cover is inherently anti-microbial, waterproof, vapour permeable and kills 99.9% of MRSA bacteria as well as numerous other organisms.
- Hygi-Zone has a patented design of second transparent skin which is waterproof and vapour-permeable.
- The Hygi-Zone’s zip is located underneath, which minimises the risk of fluid ingress and the design ensures that the mattress is used the correct way up.

Practical
- The Silver cover is easy to clean and can be unzipped for laundering.
- The tough non-slip base fabric is better at resisting damage from the metal bed frame or often blanket cradles.
- Portering handles help to reduce scuffing damage to the cover.
- A mattress audit label is attached to the cover to help record all inspections and tests for impermeability.
- Comprehensive cleaning and care notes including, how to test for impermeability are attached permanently to the cover.
Community mattress version
For the Community use, these mattresses are supplied with purple coloured cover, which has also built in antimicrobial and fungicidal properties; more appropriate to the community.
